Koh Phi Phi.

Koh Phi Phi is famous for tourism, birds nest soup and the movie, The Beach. In between Phuket, Krabi and Koh Lanta, Koh Phi Phi
is one of the jewels of southern Thailand with landscapes to take your breath away and an underwater scenery that is a mecca for
diving and snorkeling.

Many tourist from all over the world travel to Koh Phi Phi to make the most of the sandy white beaches, the easy tropical
lifestyle just to say, 'I've been there'. The 2 main icon images are of Maya Bay and the view from Viewpoint both of which are
extensively used as the picutres to define paradise on earth. Maya Bay is on the southern of the 2 main islands which is called
'Koh Phi Phi Ley' is reached by boat from the main pier. A trip out here is highly memorable whether you enter by the huge
walls at the mouth of the bay or clamber over the rope ladder from Loh Samah.

Getting up to the Viewpoint involves a bit more effort as you must climb the cement stair way (it starts 30 meters from Coco's
Guesthouse)all the way up to the coconut and cashew plantations on the higher slopes. Look out clearings at Viewpoint 1, 2 and 3
open out to stunning vistas of both beaches of Tonsai Bay and Loh Dalum with the village sandwiched between and Tonsai cliffs framing
the western edge. A morning stroll up the slopes is cooler and catches the sun on the Tonsai Cliffs but the evening view gets you
a very special sunset experience.

Koh Phi Phi is famous birds nest soup which is farmed on Koh Phi Phi Ley and Koh Phi Phi Don in the large and remote cave systems
where the birds nest. Local men climb bamboo walk ways unprotected by modern climbing gear to collect the birds nest which is then
used as the key ingrediant for the famous birds nest soup. These caves a protected from tourism and this has lead to a market driven
form of conservation of the island.

In 1999 the film crew of the movie 'The Beach' arrived to make their historic movie about a 1980's backpacking adventure with
Leonardo di Caprio inspired to seek out the last untouched tourist destination. It is an ironic twist that the movie itself has
led to a great number of people finding out about the island. The Movie is sety on Maya Bay on Koh Phi Phi Ley and can be reached
by multiple tours from Koh Phi Phi, Phuket or Krabi.

In the last few years, Koh Phi Phi has become popular as a party island with many traveling through to enjoy a good time on the
islands. Loh Dalum beach (the northern Bay) has a great beach party atmosphere but for those who need a good night sleep for a days diving
or getting a ferry to the next destination, it can be wise to book a room far from the night scene. Coco's guesthouse regulary gets rated very
highly for it's location, just out side this high energy scene.
