Weather on Koh Phi Phi

The tropical weather on Koh Phi Phi varies by season and month from hot, humid and wet to hot and dry. Koh Phi Phi Rain happens during the low season but global warming has effected the consistency of the standard forecasts and rain can come out of season, even in these high season months. We have also Rated the time to be on Koh Phi Phi by it's weather only. The low season months, when it is quiet can be better than the busy high season months as places like Maya Bay can be empty. Also Note, there are 9 km of snorkeling and diving reefs that are protected from low season winds making the island a truly all year round holiday destination.

January is the middle of the peak season on Koh Phi Phi, the island's guesthouses are often 100% full. The island is dominated by cool dry winds from the north east. Around the 15th of January these cooling winds from the north east get blocked out and apparent temperature goes up. Weather on the island is dry and hot, though not as much as the hot of March or the humidity of low season.

February is a high season month on Koh Phi Phi, the island mostly full with a busier weekend at Chinese New Year(CNY). The island is dominated by north easterly with light or no wind. Tall clouds can be seen over the mountains of the eastern province of Krabi created by heat on the mainland. These clouds cells can drift west over Koh Phi Phi in the early- late evening.  This can cause 1 hours mini rain storms, & with a sudden drop in temperatures. They can occur towards the end of the month. However, 75% of the years there is no rain but result in a general increase in humidity.

March is a high season on Koh Phi Phi known for it's heat. The island's guesthouses can be full 80% of the month. The island is dominated by hot dry air with winds from the north. Storm cells developed over Krabi Province are developing faster and earlier in the day and drift over Koh Phi Phi from afternoon to early evening. A drop of temperature and surge of wind speed signal mini rain storms are about to arrive. 60% of the years there is no rain.

Sea Temperature: 29.5 degrees April is the last month of high season on Koh Phi Phi known for it's heat and the start of the change of season. The island's guesthouses can be full 50-80% of the month. The island is dominated by hot dry air with winds from the north. Storm cells developed over Krabi Province are develop they drift over Koh Phi Phi from afternoon to early evening. Some years rain doesnt arrive till mid April around Songkran. If the wind turns to the west in late April it's a sign that Low Season is about to start early.

May is the first month of low season on Koh Phi Phi & known for it's heat, humidity and the change of season. The island's gueshtouses can be full 20-80% of the month. The wind comes in from the west, the Indian Ocean, and is dominated by hot wet air. Humidity cycles set up rain clouds during the afternoon /evening that make rain for around for 1-2 hours and then dissapear. Inbetween these humidity cycles you can have a few days of hot, sunny, dry but humid weather. Once the humidity reaches a tipping point the the rain starts again and the humidity cycles continue for a few days.

Low season. The middle of June is when the sun is overhead and Koh Phi Phi has it's first monsoon. June is known for it's heat, humidity and the change of season. The island's gueshtouses can be full 15-40% of the month. The wind comes in from the west, the Indian Ocean, and is dominated by hot wet air. As well as the Humidity cycles described in 'May Weather' you can get storm cells that have formed in the Bay of Bengal. These can bring in strong winds and rain for a couple of days. It can be a magical time on Koh Phi Phi and when the weather breaks you can see Phi Phi at it's best. Snorkeling & diving under the protected steep cliffs of Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Ley ensures water based activities continue every day.
